The DW-001J was launched in November 1994, and was the first G-Shock featuring a new capsule tough construction. It was a pioneering case construction, which envelopes the case fully in resin for a unique shock resistant structure. The DW-001J was also the first G-Shock to incorporate metal mesh inserts in the band, which not only allows for passage of air while the watch is being worn, they also add a fashionable look.
Highlighting this construction are back case appendages that provide additional protection and secure fit around the wrist. The perforated-look to the bezel is reminiscent of a hockey mask, earning this model the nickname "Jason", from the horror flick Friday the 13th.
The DW-001J had a temperature sensor capable of measuring a range from -20 to 60 °C, a feature absent in the present day G-001 Jason models.
